Sbeydeh Viveros-Walton is a first-generation immigrant who deeply understands the value of hard-work and dedication to pursuing dreams of a better life.

Sbeydeh brings over 18 years of experience in public service leadership. She is an active member of our vibrant community. Her career is marked by significant contributions to the City of San Leandro, where she served as the City’s Public Information Officer and former Chair of the Library Historical Commission, former Chair of the Cherry Festival, and former Chair of the Cinco de Mayo Planning Committees. Since 2015, she regularly speaks to students at San Leandro High School’s Career Day. 

Sbeydeh currently leads as the Director of Higher Education at Public Advocates, a non-profit law firm and advocacy organization dedicated to combating the systemic causes of poverty and racial discrimination. She served as Chair of the Peralta Colleges Foundation and has been a part of UC Berkeley's Chicano Latino Alumni Association. Currently, she is the Co-Chair of KQED's Community Advisory Panel, representing East Bay's diverse voices and perspectives. 

Sbeydeh’s late father was a farmer and her mother a retired nurse in Mexico. She is a proud graduate of California’s three public higher education institutions. She is a Chabot Community College transfer student and graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in Rhetoric and Ethnic Studies. She also holds a Master’s in Public Administration from San Francisco State University. 

Sbeydeh and her spouse Jason came back to San Leandro in 2015 and their household is reflective of San Leandro. She is a first-generation immigrant and her spouse’s family has called San Leandro home for 74 years. Their two young children - and their dog Luna - are proud third-generation San Leandrans.

Sbeydeh’s entire professional career has been dedicated to public service ensuring access to quality education and community involvement. In March 2024 she was appointed to fill San Leandro City Council District 1’s seat by a unanimous vote of all council members.
